World markets dive as Trump sparks trade, North Korea worries

Global stocks sank Wednesday after US President Donald Trump said he was not satisfied with talks that are aimed at averting a trade war with China. Equities were also dented by poor eurozone economic data, and as Trump cast doubt on a planned summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. “Trump (is) continuing to drive uncertainty over global trade,” said analyst Joshua Mahony at trading firm IG. “European markets are following their Asian counterparts lower, as a pessimistic tone from Trump is compounded by downbeat economic data,” he added. Markets had surged Monday after US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and Chinese Vice Premier Liu He said they had agreed to pull back from imposing threatened tariffs on billions of dollars of goods, and continue talks on a variety of trade issues. However, Trump has declared that he was “not satisfied” with the status of the talks, fuelling worries that the world’s top two economies could still slug out an economically pain...

Tosin Saraki Marrying A Christian Man Is A Sin" - Muslim Facebook User -.

For Tosin Saraki, the daughter of the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki to marry a Christian man that simply show that Tosin has been following the religion of her mother (Toyin Saraki) before now and its haram for any Alfa in Ilorin to coordinate such marriage, unfortunately, Alfas Ilorin are more to money than standing for Islam, however, with this marriage, Bukola Saraki has proved to the northerners that he is more of a southerner than being a northerner and this marriage will have consequences on his political agenda even am sure some northerners politicians will make mockery of daughter's marriage, Since it's impossible to see a Muslim northerner politician to marry off his daughter to a Christian man, even he can't allow his son to marry a Christian lady, though Islam permits this but didn't permit a Muslim woman to marry a Christian man. In the north, marriage and religion have a strong tie with their political system and with Tosin Saraki's marriage to a C...

US president Carter says would travel to Pyongyang.

Former US president Jimmy Carter says he has offered to go to North Korea on behalf of the White House to try to allay rising tensions, but has not been asked, the New York Times reported Sunday. “I would go, yes,” Carter told the Times in an interview at his home when asked if he would go on such a trip for the Donald Trump administration. The 93-year-old Democrat, who was president from 1977 to 1981, said he had told the Republican president’s National Security Advisor HR McMaster that he “was available if they ever need me.” In 1994 Carter had traveled to Pyongyang to negotiate with Kim Il-sung, the current leader’s grandfather, over the North’s nuclear program, the Times said. In recent months President Trump has engaged in an escalating war of words with North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un, trading personal insults and threatening to “totally destroy” North Korea if it threatens the United States. Asked about the verbal attacks, Carter told the Times he is “...

How 7 States Blew Billions On White Elephant Projects.

Some mega projects worth billions of naira, which were initiated by previous governments in seven states, have been abandoned by the current state governments. The Nation investigation in Abia, Rivers, Niger, Ogun, Plateau, Bayelsa and Akwa Ibom states revealed that the projects, abandoned at different levels of execution, are left to rot away, even as some of them now harbour criminals, reptiles and other dangerous animals. Most of the projects, we learnt, were initially financed through loans, some of which are still being paid or serviced by the affected states. For example, the Monorail Project in Rivers State, which was conceived and began by the former governor of the state, now Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, in his first tenure as governor in 2008, was designed to cover 12 kilometres at the cost of N50 billion. It was however abandoned at the point of 2.6 kilometres when the former governor completed his second tenure in office. Sources said the work alread...

She declined to comment on whether WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus would retract the honorary role he gave earlier this week to Zimbabwe’s 93-year-old authoritarian leader, which triggered widespread outrage. Tedros tweeted late Saturday that he was “rethinking” the decision and calls for its reversal have continued to mount. Activists, public health experts and key WHO donors like Britain, Canada and the United States have denounced a prospective role for Mugabe within the agency, saying Zimbabwe’s healthcare system has collapsed under his 37-year rule. “The Mugabe appointment, coming...

World number three Karolina Pliskova believes her experience playing on the Singapore Indoor Stadium’s slower court was the catalyst for a crushing straight sets victory over Venus Williams on Sunday. Pliskova, playing in her second consecutive WTA Finals, overwhelmed a sluggish Williams from the get-go to record a 6-2, 6-2 victory in a one-sided match lasting just one hour and 13 minutes. Williams was making her debut in Singapore after reaching the WTA Finals for the first time since 2009, when it was played in Doha. Even though she did not make it out of the group stage a year ago, the Czech said the experience helped enormously. “I think I had quite an advantage from that she (Williams) was not playing for the last few years in WTA finals,” Pliskova told reporters after the match. “I don’t know how she felt but I think I was trying to take that advantage that I was here last year.” Opening the tournament, which fields the top eight players, Pliskova — pla...

Mueller lasted just ten minutes of Saturday’s 1-0 Bundesliga win at ten-man Hamburg. He came off the bench at half-time, set up Corentin Tolisso’s winning goal on 52 minutes and then went off injured three minutes later. “I have a problem with my right hamstring,” he glumly told reporters with a scan on Sunday set to reveal the injury and if the Germany forward will be sidelined. Worst Day Of My Life: She Was Barren For 14yrs & She Died On Childbirth - .

May your joy never turn to sorrow overnight or at the spark of good thing. A medical doctor in Pakistan shared this very touching story of how a woman who's been barren for over 14-years died during childbirth. See the story he shared ..... Today is the saddest day of my life. As a Doctor, I have handled so many pregnant women in Labour and every time am in the delivery room I always pray to God to bless all mothers. The pain women go through in the delivery room is undescribable and this does not include the 9 months they spent carrying the baby. They go through a lot just to bring forth new life. Today I cried bitterly because I lost a woman, we don't pray for things like this to happen but sometimes God may have other plans. Why is this woman's case so painful? She has been barren for 14 years! We have tried IVF & so many method known to man, the woman went through a lot. Finally God blessed her, it was way beyond science and human knowledge. She just got pregnant de...

Shift Lemme Faint!… A farcical portrait of Nigeria on stage.

How do Nigerians behave? What is so uniquely Nigerian that is worth celebrating or condemning? Specifically, how do Nigerians relate in their religious beliefs, political culture, especially the thieving type that is now so entrenched? Before the dawn of the millennia, how were Nigerian children brought up and how was sex among unmarried, young adults viewed? What informed such social relationships and how were the nuances navigated? How do Nigerians react to institutions that deliver public services, like the power company? A thousand and one questions like these were what formed the subject matter of the stage play, Shift Lemme Faint!, which was performed recently in Lagos. It hits the stage in Abuja this weekend. Produced by Lydia Idakula Sobogun and directed by Kenneth Uphopho, the play hits at the many imbecilities that often attend some of Nigeria’s social behaviours, which, sadly, are responsible for some of the malaise plaguing the country and its perennial under-dev...
