World markets dive as Trump sparks trade, North Korea worries

Global stocks sank Wednesday after US President Donald Trump said he was not satisfied with talks that are aimed at averting a trade war with China. Equities were also dented by poor eurozone economic data, and as Trump cast doubt on a planned summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. “Trump (is) continuing to drive uncertainty over global trade,” said analyst Joshua Mahony at trading firm IG. “European markets are following their Asian counterparts lower, as a pessimistic tone from Trump is compounded by downbeat economic data,” he added. Markets had surged Monday after US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and Chinese Vice Premier Liu He said they had agreed to pull back from imposing threatened tariffs on billions of dollars of goods, and continue talks on a variety of trade issues. However, Trump has declared that he was “not satisfied” with the status of the talks, fuelling worries that the world’s top two economies could still slug out an economically pain

Tammy Abraham says no regret snubbing Nigeria.

New England call-up Tammy Abraham says he never considered playing for Nigeria at international level despite repeated overtures from the Nigerian Football Federation. Abraham’s father is Nigerian and a childhood friend of Nigerian federation president Amaju Pinnick, who claimed in September that Abraham had decided to play for the west African country. But Abraham, an England Under-21 international, denied the claim and having been called up for England’s forthcoming friendlies against Germany and Brazil, the striker is not entertaining second thoughts. “I see myself as being a long-term England player,” Abraham, 20, told reporters at England’s St George’s Park training base in Burton-on-Trent, central England on Monday. “That is where my main focus is and I am 100 percent focused here to try and get into that team. “I was pretty set on England really and playing in the Premier League meant it would be nice to play in the England team as well.” Abraham is

NEDC to end insurgency in the Northeast, says Dogara.

Imperative of the commission  First of all, I will start by extending our sympathies, that is, of members of the House of Representatives, as well as those of members of our own caucus, over this very deadly crisis that has bedeviled our own section of this dear country. Let me also thank the press for their effort in highlighting the crisis and the security agencies for the very extraordinary sacrifices put in place in order to restore some sanity in our region. For us who are sons of the Northeast, we know our History very well, so we appreciate this gesture and we will not take it lightly. I commend Mr. President for signing the Bill into law. As I said before, this shows the level of the President’s sensitivity to the plight of the highly traumatised people of the North East.  From day one when we started meeting our thinking was how do we ensure that whatever policies that is developed by government that is aimed at tackling the millions of challenges facing us as a zone are po

In a statement, JAY-Z, who runs Roc Nation, the management company that Mill is signed with, called the sentence “ unjust and heavy handed. ” “ We will always stand by and support Meek Mill, both as he attempts to right this wrongful sentence and then in returning to his musical career.” The sentence c

Robert Lewandowski has eclipsed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the race to be this season’s top-scorer in Germany, but the Bayern Munich star is backing his Borussia Dortmund rival to break his goal drought soon. Aubameyang narrowly beat Lewandowski to become the Bundesliga’s top-scorer last season by scoring 31 goals – one more than his Polish rival. However, Gabon hot-shot Aubameyang has drawn a blank in his last five games having now gone 476 minutes without a goal for Dortmund in all competitions. “Everybody goes through these phases and the scorer’s job is the hardest one on the pitch anyway,” Lewandowski told German daily Bild on Tuesday. “When you are on a good run, you score everything, but woe betide when it doesn’t work and you hit the crossbar instead of the net. “Then a lot of things go through your head. “It’s important to clear your head quickly and regain the old looseness, then I’m sure he’ll be successful again.” Bayern’s Lewandowski scored
