World markets dive as Trump sparks trade, North Korea worries

Global stocks sank Wednesday after US President Donald Trump said he was not satisfied with talks that are aimed at averting a trade war with China. Equities were also dented by poor eurozone economic data, and as Trump cast doubt on a planned summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. “Trump (is) continuing to drive uncertainty over global trade,” said analyst Joshua Mahony at trading firm IG. “European markets are following their Asian counterparts lower, as a pessimistic tone from Trump is compounded by downbeat economic data,” he added. Markets had surged Monday after US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and Chinese Vice Premier Liu He said they had agreed to pull back from imposing threatened tariffs on billions of dollars of goods, and continue talks on a variety of trade issues. However, Trump has declared that he was “not satisfied” with the status of the talks, fuelling worries that the world’s top two economies could still slug out an economically pain...

Bale boasts an impressive record in the Club World Cup.

Saturday, 16 December Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has welcomed the return of a "happy" Gareth Bale as the Spanish side prepares for the Fifa Club World Cup final game with Gremio in Abu Dhabi on Saturday. The Wales forward was making only his second appearance for the club since suffering a calf injury in September. "I'm very happy to see Gareth with us again," said Zidane. "He looks very happy to me and very pleased to be with his team-mates. "We'll see how he progresses. Saturday is a final and he's prepared to play." Man Utd: Jose Mourinho may allow Henrikh Mkhitaryan to leave.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho says "every player has his price", which may pave the way for the January departure of Henrikh Mkhitaryan. The Armenian playmaker has not started a game since the defeat at Chelsea on 5 November and has not been in the matchday squad for the last four games. Mkhitaryan became Mourinho's third signing when he joined from Borussia Dortmund for a £30m fee 18 months ago. But BBC Sport understands there has been a "breakdown of trust". Speaking before Sunday's trip to West Brom, Mourinho said: "If a player is not happy and brings with the request a number we consider good for us, I would never say no. "That is my approach as a manager. Every player has a price." Man Utd's Bailly out for three months Last January, Mourinho allowed Memphis Depay to join Lyon and Morgan Schneiderlin to move to Everton. He subsequently released Bastian Schweinsteiger from his contract so he could take up a l...

North Korea 'hacked crypto-currency exchange in South'.

South Korea's spy agency believes that North Korea is behind hacking attacks on a crypto-currency exchange in the South, sources say. At least $7m (£5.25m) in digital money was stolen in the hacks - although the money is now said to have ballooned in value to $82.7m. The thieves also stole the personal information of some 30,000 people. They were trading the virtual currencies Bitcoin and Ethereum on the Bithumb crypto-currency exchange. Based on recent trading volumes, Bithumb is South Korea's biggest and one of the five largest in the world. Analysts say North Korean hackers may have targeted crypto-currencies in order to evade the financial sanctions imposed as punishment for the North's development of nuclear weapons. This attack is said to date back to February, when a Bithumb employee's home PC was targeted - though it was only discovered in June. The hackers also demanded a further $5.5m from Bithumb in exchange for deleting traders' personal i...

HP Releases a New Brand Envy x2 review: Hands-on.

Windows 10 now runs on the same processor in many phones, the Snapdragon 835. We've been hands-on with one of the first to be unveiled, the HP Envy x2 at the Snapdragon Summit. By Williams Mill   | 16 Dec 2017. PRICE WHEN REVIEWED To be confirmed HP ENVY X2 REVIEW: HANDS-ON Windows 10 has finally arrived on Snapdragon  and the HP Envy x2 is the first tablet to be announced on the platform. Here’s our hands-on review from the Snapdragon Summit in Hawaii.  PRICE One of the big issues we have at the moment is we don’t know how much the Envy x2 will cost. HP has only said that it will be available ‘Spring 2018’.  Although the  Asus NovaGo    has been announced as another Windows 10 device on Snapdragon with a price of $599, we fear that the Envy x2 won’t hit this price point and could well be $100+ more for the base model. That said, it’s likely to be cheaper than some key rivals. DESIGN AND BUILD In terms o...
