World markets dive as Trump sparks trade, North Korea worries

Global stocks sank Wednesday after US President Donald Trump said he was not satisfied with talks that are aimed at averting a trade war with China. Equities were also dented by poor eurozone economic data, and as Trump cast doubt on a planned summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. “Trump (is) continuing to drive uncertainty over global trade,” said analyst Joshua Mahony at trading firm IG. “European markets are following their Asian counterparts lower, as a pessimistic tone from Trump is compounded by downbeat economic data,” he added. Markets had surged Monday after US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and Chinese Vice Premier Liu He said they had agreed to pull back from imposing threatened tariffs on billions of dollars of goods, and continue talks on a variety of trade issues. However, Trump has declared that he was “not satisfied” with the status of the talks, fuelling worries that the world’s top two economies could still slug out an economically pain

Ali Ndume Taidi Jonathan, former Chairman of the Nigeria Bar Association ( NBA), Minna chapter, says the judgment of the Federal High Court Abuja, which nullified suspension of Sending Ali Ndume has vindicated the position that the Senate does not have the power to carry out the action. Lagos PDP chieftain cautions against imposition.

A Chieftain of PDP in Lagos State, Mr Dipo Olorunrinu, on Saturday cautioned the national leadership of the party against imposition in the ongoing harmonisation processes to avoid another crisis. Olorunrinu, the PDP’s last man in the Lagos State House of Assembly, representing Amuwo-Odofin Constituency I, gave the advice while speaking with newsmen in Lagos. He decried the decision of the National Caretaker Committee of the party to apportion 70 per cent of the party executives to federal lawmakers at the expense of grassroots choices. He said that harmonisation process adopted by the party leadership should not amount to imposition. The lawmaker spoke just as one of the stalwarts in Lagos, Otunba Segun Adewale, announced his withdrawal from the state chairmanship race on Friday over alleged imposition through ongoing harmonisation. Ikom Kidnappers' Killings: New Photos Show Moments Kidnappers Were Killed .

More photographs have emerged showing a group of Kidnappers shot dead in Ikom by the cross-river state special anti-robbery squad(SARS), alive during the time of capture contradicting a report by the Cross-river police that the kidnappers were killed in a gun battle. One of the photographs indicate that the kidnappers were not killed in a gun battle but were likely murdered as a young man is seen dragging the body of one of the kidnappers out of a bush. Other photographs show the kidnappers alive and well after their arrest. The development is now being tagged an extrajudicial killing of the suspected kidnappers. The CRS Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Irene Ugbo insists that the suspects were killed in a gun battle with the police, but these pictures clearly show that they were arrested and killed without resisting.

Buffon says ‘no panic’ as Italy on brink of World Cup disaster.

Italy must not panic as they bid to avoid missing a World Cup for the first time in 60 years, goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon said after a 1-0 playoff defeat to Sweden pushed them to the brink of disaster. Captain Buffon bidding to reach a record sixth World Cup finals in Russia — is one of the last survivors of Italy’s golden generation of 2006 World Cup winners. But an Azzurri performance in Stockholm branded “ugly and confused” leaves Italy with all to play for in Monday’s second leg in Milan to avoid failing to qualify for the World Cup finals for the first time since 1958. “We need to be as clear-headed as possible to go to the World Cup,” said Buffon, who conceded a shot by Swedish substitute Jakob Johansson that was deflected by Daniele De Rossi. “We know we’ve lost, but we have another 90 minutes to overcome this complicated situation. The first rule is not to cry over it,” he told TMW radio. “I expect a full San Siro to carry this team through, I don’t w

Cameroon says soldier killed in restive region.

A soldier was killed by suspected separatists in southwestern Cameroon, an official said, bringing the number killed in restive English-speaking regions to four in one week. “During the night of 9 to 10 November, a soldier serving the 22nd motorised infantry battalion was cruelly killed by a squad of terrorists,” government spokesman Issa Tchiroma Bakary told AFP. The incident took place in the southwestern administrative region, one of two where unrest has broken out among Cameroon’s anglophone minority. The other three soldiers were killed in the northwest. French-speaking Cameroon has a large anglophone community which comprises about a fifth of its 22 million population. Many English speakers say they suffer economic inequality and discrimination at the hands of the francophone majority, particularly in education and justice. Tchiroma said the soldier had been guarding a bridge on the border with Nigeria at Akwem, not far from the city of Mamfe. On October 1
