World markets dive as Trump sparks trade, North Korea worries

Global stocks sank Wednesday after US President Donald Trump said he was not satisfied with talks that are aimed at averting a trade war with China. Equities were also dented by poor eurozone economic data, and as Trump cast doubt on a planned summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. “Trump (is) continuing to drive uncertainty over global trade,” said analyst Joshua Mahony at trading firm IG. “European markets are following their Asian counterparts lower, as a pessimistic tone from Trump is compounded by downbeat economic data,” he added. Markets had surged Monday after US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and Chinese Vice Premier Liu He said they had agreed to pull back from imposing threatened tariffs on billions of dollars of goods, and continue talks on a variety of trade issues. However, Trump has declared that he was “not satisfied” with the status of the talks, fuelling worries that the world’s top two economies could still slug out an economically pain

2 Zimbabwean Pupils Caught Having Sex In A Cemetery -.

WHEN it comes to sex, sometimes real life mimics fiction. These words were played out by a seemingly disturbing incident of two shameless pupils fro m two different high schools in Bulawayo (names supplied) who were caught romping in a cemetery. The pupils’ raunchy encounter is said to have happened on Monday afternoon at West Park Cemetery. The two pupils allegedly decided to use the cemetery as their love nest, taking advantage of the restful atmosphere, tall grass and shrubs covering some parts of the graveyard. According to a caretaker who refused to be named as he was not cleared to speak to the Press, a shocked passer-by spotted the randy pair as he walked through the cemetery before he approached them and ordered them to put on clothes. When the passerby escorted them to the caretaker the pupils vehemently disputed his claims saying he caught them “kissing and cuddling”. The girl who was reportedly shedding tears insisted that their antics had not yet gone further. The pas

China says US warship ‘violated’ its sovereignty.

Beijing on Saturday said it had dispatched a warship to drive away a US missile destroyer which had “violated” its sovereignty by sailing close to a shoal in the disputed South China Sea. The USS Hopper sailed within 12 nautical miles of Huangyan Island on the night of January 17 without alerting Beijing, the foreign ministry said, referring to the shoal by its Chinese name. Also known as Scarborough Shoal, the ring of reefs lies about 230 kilometres (140 miles) from the Philippines in the South China Sea, where Beijing’s claims are hotly contested by other nations. The US vessel “violated China’s sovereignty and security interests”, and put the safety of nearby Chinese vessels “under grave threat”, foreign ministry spokesman Lu Kang said. China’s defence ministry said in a separate statement that a Chinese frigate “immediately took actions to identify and verify the US ship and drove it away by warning” it. The USS Hopper recently entered the US Navy’s 7th

Explosive evolution' of techniques to restore blood flow to the brain.

Recent decades have seen an "explosive evolution" of techniques to restore blood flow to areas of the brain endangered by stroke or clogged arteries, according to a report by Loyola Medicine neurologists and neurosurgeons. Historically, the introduction of operating microscopes enabled surgeons to perform delicate microsurgeries to clear clogged arteries and remove blood clots that cause strokes. More recently, physicians have begun using minimally invasive endovascular techniques. "The last 50 to 60 years have witnessed an explosive evolution of techniques geared at restoring blood flow to compromised regions of the brain, senior author Camilo R. Gomez, MD, and colleagues wrote in the Nov. 9, 2017  MedLink Neurology . Endovascular techniques do not require invasive open surgery. The physician employs catheters (thin tubes) that are guided through blood vessels to the brain. From the tip of the catheter, the physician deploys stents or other devices to r

IOC, two Koreas meet to finalise historic Olympic deal.

After the two Koreas struck a deal for the North to attend the Winter Games in the South, Olympic bosses were meeting Saturday to resolve the devils in the details of the landmark pact. With less than three weeks to go before the Games in Pyeongchang begin, the most momentous decisions have already been made. North and South Korea will march together at the opening ceremony under a unification flag and field a united women’s hockey team, while the North has said it will send a 550-member delegation to the Games. North Korea has taken part in seven of the last 12 Winter Olympics, most recently in Vancouver 2010. But its presence in Pyeongchang — just 80 kilometres (50 miles) south of the demilitarised zone that divides the Koreas — is a significant diplomatic coup, especially after months that saw nuclear and missile tensions surge to new heights. The International Olympic Committee now has to sign off on the terms agreed by Seoul and Pyongyang — and try to im

Inside Serena Williams’s Fairy-Tale Wedding in New Orleans.(Beautiful wedding pictures)

It’s 3:00 p.m. the day before their wedding, and  Serena Williams  and Alexis Ohanian are practicing their first dance one last time with a choreographer in the depths of their venue, the Contemporary Arts Center in New Orleans. Outside, paparazzi are ensconced across the street hoping to catch a glimpse of the tennis superstar, and vendors are quickly working to build the French ball–themed,  Beauty and the Beast –style decor, complete with a gold arch of flowers at the end of the aisle, long tables covered in lamé fabric, and lots of surprises. Inside, Serena is a calm, cool, and confident bride, dressed in leggings and a black baseball cap, just trying to nail her steps for when she and her husband take their first spin on the dance floor to “Tale as Old as Time” tomorrow. Some might say that just like the protagonists in Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve’s fairy tale, Serena and Alexis are an unlikely match from two very different worlds. She’s the greatest female athlete e

Kerber crushes Sharapova in ex-champs showdown at Ope.

Angelique Kerber crushed Maria Sharapova in straight sets in a battle of former champions at the Australian Open on Saturday. The 2016 winner from Germany and 21st seed roared past the unseeded Russian 2008 champion 6-1, 6-3 in 64 minutes to reach the last 16. “I was just trying to enjoy every point,” said Kerber after snuffing out Sharapova’s hopes in only her second Grand Slam tournament back since serving a 15-month doping ban. The hugely anticipated match-up of the only two Australian Open winners — and indeed Grand Slam champions — left in the women’s draw got top billing Saturday night on Rod Laver Arena. “I have so many good memories on this court,” said Kerber, who won her first Grand Slam title there two years ago when she beat Serena Williams in the final. “I knew before the match it would be a tough one.” Sharapova only returned to the top 50 two weeks ago and Kerber to the top 20 last week after being on top of the rankings as defending champi

Turkish army says launches new strikes on Kurdish militia targets in Syria.

The Turkish army said it launched new strikes Saturday against the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) militia in northern Syria, amid mounting expectations of a cross-border ground operation. The army said it hit in “legitimate self defence” camps and refuges used by the YPG in response to fire coming from the Afrin region controlled by the militia group, which Turkey deems to be a terror organisation. Similar strikes had also taken place on Friday, it confirmed. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has repeatedly threatened over the last days to launch a ground operation, also including pro-Ankara Syrian rebels, to oust the YPG from Afrin and the area. Turkey accuses the YPG of being the Syrian offshoot of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) which has waged a rebellion in the Turkish southeast for more than three decades and is regarded as a terror group by Ankara and its Western allies. But the YPG has been the key ally of Turkey’s fellow NATO member the Unite

Game Nintendo Unveils Labo, a DIY Cardboard Kit for the Switch.

Nintendo, riding high off of record-shattering sales of its Switch gaming console, on Wednesday announced an out-of-the-box addition to the family, Nintendo Labo. With its Toy-Con creations, Labo could rewrite the script on the way gaming companies expand their audience to the children's market. Nintendo Labo, a do-it-yourself cardboard kit, offers five different Toy-Con projects kids can use to learn and interact with the Switch. The Nintendo Labo Variety Kit includes a Toy-Con Piano, Toy-Con Fishing Rod, Toy-Con House, Toy-Con Motorbike and two Toy-Con RC Cars. A 13-key cardboard piano becomes a functioning instrument once the Switch console and the right Joy Con controller are inserted into the instrument. When the keys are pressed, an IR Motion Camera converts them into notes that are played through the console. Users can make cardboard motorbike handlebars and then insert the Joy-Con into each side and the Nintendo Switch in the middle. After hitting the ignition

IS BELOTTI STILL A €100M RISK WORTH TAKING FOR CHELSEA OR MAN UTD?.

The Torino striker became one of the most sought-after frontmen on the planet last season, but is he what Antonio Conte or Jose Mourinho needs now? “One-season wonder” – a title nobody wants, particularly strikers whose reputation and value rests squarely on their ability to contribute a steady stream of goals. Unfortunately for the frontmen of the world, their chosen position places them under the brightest of spotlights and under the greatest threat of being written off at the drop of a hat. At the focal point of an attack, those who make a living out of finding the back of the net take to the field every week knowing that their standing in the eyes of a global audience can shift dramatically between hero and no-hoper.
