World markets dive as Trump sparks trade, North Korea worries

Global stocks sank Wednesday after US President Donald Trump said he was not satisfied with talks that are aimed at averting a trade war with China. Equities were also dented by poor eurozone economic data, and as Trump cast doubt on a planned summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. “Trump (is) continuing to drive uncertainty over global trade,” said analyst Joshua Mahony at trading firm IG. “European markets are following their Asian counterparts lower, as a pessimistic tone from Trump is compounded by downbeat economic data,” he added. Markets had surged Monday after US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and Chinese Vice Premier Liu He said they had agreed to pull back from imposing threatened tariffs on billions of dollars of goods, and continue talks on a variety of trade issues. However, Trump has declared that he was “not satisfied” with the status of the talks, fuelling worries that the world’s top two economies could still slug out an economically pain...

Github shrugs off drone maker DJI's crypto key DMCA takedown effort.

Github rejected a DMCA takedown request from Chinese drone-maker DJI after someone forked source code left in the open by a naughty DJI developer,  The Register  can reveal. This included AES keys permitting decryption of flight control firmware, which could allow drone fliers with technical skills to remove geofencing from the flight control software: this software prevents DJI drones from flying in certain areas such as the approach paths for airports, or near government buildings deemed to be sensitive. Though the released key is not for the latest firmware version,  The Register  has seen evidence (detailed below) that drone hackers are already incorporating it in modified firmware available for anyone to download and flash to their drones. DJI declined to comment for this article. Github ignored  The Register 's invitation to comment. Read the small print carefully While the keys themselves were left online for "two to four years",  as we ...

Google can't innovate anymore, exiting programmer laments.

Seven years ago, Google software engineer Steve Yegge, having failed to understand the risk that a private social media rant might become public,  lambasted Google  for its failure to understand software platforms, with Google+ serving as his whipping boy. Despite calling out Google's leaders by name and highlighting the Chocolate Factory's "short-term thinking," he  did not get fired , as happened with a more recent memo penned by former Google engineer James Damore. On Tuesday, Yegge announced his departure from Google for Grab – perhaps not the best name for a ride-hailing service in the #MeToo era. But as he left the Chocolate Factory he couldn't resist pouring gasoline on the bridge he previously failed to burn. In so doing, he adds to the surprisingly long list of Google departure declarations. Other examples of this budding literary genre include: James Whittaker's " Why I left Google " (spoiler alert: It was Google+); Spencer Tipping...

Erdogan threatens to expand offensive to other northern Syrian cities.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday threatened to expand Turkey’s offensive against the Afrin region in Syria to other cities in the country’s north to remove the presence of the Syrian Kurdish militia that Ankara views as terrorists. “We will continue our fight until there is no terrorist on our border leading to Iraq,” Erdogan said in a speech in Ankara, vowing to “clean up” the city of Manbij, east of Afrin, also held by the Syrian Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) militia. Turkey launched its military operation dubbed “Olive Branch” against the YPG on Saturday, supporting Syrian rebels with ground troops, air strikes and artillery fire. While the YPG is still working closely with Washington against the Islamic State (IS) extremist group in Syria, Ankara views the YPG as a terror group allied to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) inside Turkey. The PKK is blacklisted by Ankara and its Western allies as a terror outfit. The seven-day offen...

Davis promises independent UK amid fresh Brexit tensions.

Brexit minister David Davis will seek to reassure eurosceptics about the government’s strategy for leaving the EU on Friday after fresh splits emerged in the ruling Conservative party. Prime Minister Theresa May rebuked her finance minister, Philip Hammond, on Thursday after he suggested Britain would only move “very modestly apart” from the EU’s economy after Brexit. Meanwhile backbench MP Jacob Rees-Mogg, who leads a group of more than 50 Brexit-supporting Conservative MPs, warned ministers against being too “timid”. Tensions are rising as the other 27 EU countries prepare to approve guidelines next week for talks on the terms of a two-year transition period requested by Britain after Brexit. They will be followed by discussions on Britain’s future trading relations, but — just over a year from Brexit in March 2019 — London has yet to set out exactly what it wants. In his speech Friday, Davis will promise: “As an independent country, no longer a member of the Eu...

What is the difference between a chromosome and a gene?.

This topic gets very complicated very quickly. Here's a short version. All life is made up of cells. All cells in the human body, except red blood cells, contain chromosomes. "Chromosome" comes from the Greek words khroma meaning "color" and soma meaning "body". Chromosomes got their name from the first lab experiments in the 1880s that revealed chromosomes could be easily stained with dyes, thus making studying them easier. A gene is located on a chromosome. Every factor in inheritance is due to a particular gene. Genes specify the structure of particular proteins that make up each cell. Gene comes from the Greek word genea meaning generation, origin, beginning, kin, or sometimes race. Gene was shortened from "pangene" which means "all-generation". Genes contain DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid). DNA is the chemical basis of heredity. Think of it this way: DNA is in genes, genes are on chromosomes. When "mapping" all g...

Trump sends ‘warmest regards’ to African leaders after reported slur.

US President Donald Trump on Friday asked the African Union chairman to pass on his “warmest regards” to other regional leaders at a summit this weekend, after sparking outrage with a reported slur against Africans. The outspoken US leader congratulated Rwandan President Paul Kagame on taking over as chair of the African bloc, which Trump said was a “great honour”.   “I know you’re going to your first meeting shortly. Please give my warmest regards,” Trump told Kagame after they held a one-on-one meeting at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. The US president ignored questions shouted by journalists about his reported dismissal this month of African nations as “shithole countries”, during a meeting on immigration with congressional leaders. The reported remark drew outrage around the world and prompted several African governments to demand explanation...

Canadian Mathematician Tried To Prove Quran False, Ended Up Accepting Islam - Islam for Muslims .

ary Miller was a professor of Mathematics at the University of Toronto. He also was a Christian missionary who noticed that Muslim people were almost impossible to convert to Christianity. In 1977 he decided to study the Quran with the goal of finding scientific and historical errors that would help in convincing Muslims they are following a false religion. The first thing professor Miller noticed was that many verses of the Quran challenge people to use reason: " Will they not then contemplate the Quran? and if it had been from other than God, indeed they would have found in it many contradictions." (Quran 4:82) "... and in case you are suspicious about what we have been sending down upon our bondman, (i.e. prophet Muhammad) then come up with a surah of like, and invoke your witnesses, apart from God, in case you are sincere." (Quran 2:23) After careful study professor Miller was amazed by the Quran and reached the conclusion that it cannot be the work of a human b...

Islam And Spirituality - Islam for Muslims.

What does Islam say about our spirituality? Why do we talk less about spirituality in Islam? Is it not as important as well. from my personal experience a lot is going in the spiritual realm, u might think is not your business, but believe me the activities going on in the spiritual realm is affecting our daily life but we know not. And from what I see the shayateen are winning the war. Let me tell you, shaitan don't care about the Christians, atheist, Jews and other religion because they are already misguided. They only care about the believers (Muslims) and while we are going about our normal business looking for our daily bread, they are devising new strategies everyday to cause enmity, war, hatred between Muslims so that the Muslims will kill themselves, This way it makes their job of weakening Muslims easy all in preparation for the coming of dajjal.  There's is a big conspiracy against Islam in the world today, and the shayateen are the once in charge making sure the plan...

What Exactly Does Cheating Mean?.

As to what cheating means these days? We are as confused or certain as you are. Looking at another when you are out with your partner or not eating their food is enough, for some, to label you disrespectful and a cheat. With the rate at which people are getting arrested for catching their “cheating” partner these days, we don’t even know what cheating means anymore. What this has done is succeed in increasing our confusion. Cheating Woman. Photo credit: Pinterest Like the court, your partner is not guilty until proven otherwise. Yet, we are told to trust our instincts and according to science, our instincts are like our sixth sense. This brings us to the questions: What if your partner is tired and hasn’t broken up with you because your partner recognises you have emotions? What if it’s our insecurity that is making us imagine things and everything happening is just coincidence? What if your partner has a surprise package up their sleeves and telling you would mean th...
