World markets dive as Trump sparks trade, North Korea worries

Global stocks sank Wednesday after US President Donald Trump said he was not satisfied with talks that are aimed at averting a trade war with China. Equities were also dented by poor eurozone economic data, and as Trump cast doubt on a planned summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. “Trump (is) continuing to drive uncertainty over global trade,” said analyst Joshua Mahony at trading firm IG. “European markets are following their Asian counterparts lower, as a pessimistic tone from Trump is compounded by downbeat economic data,” he added. Markets had surged Monday after US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and Chinese Vice Premier Liu He said they had agreed to pull back from imposing threatened tariffs on billions of dollars of goods, and continue talks on a variety of trade issues. However, Trump has declared that he was “not satisfied” with the status of the talks, fuelling worries that the world’s top two economies could still slug out an economically pain

Ibrahimovic’s MLS debut ‘possibly’ as soon as Saturday says coach.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s Major League Soccer debut for the Los Angeles Galaxy could come as soon as Saturday, said Galaxy manager Sigi Schmid who described the Swede as “not a normal, mortal human’. The Swedish star won’t arrive in Southern California until Thursday night and is due to meet his new teammates on Friday morning. AC Milan to reward Gattuso with new contract.

AC Milan have confirmed that coach Gennaro Gattuso will be rewarded with a new contract this Easter. Gattuso, the club’s former youth team coach, took over the seven-time European champions from Vincenzo Montella last November and has rekindled the club’s season as they sit within the Europa League spots and with hopes of qualifying for the Champions League. “When we open our eggs this Easter, we’re going to find Gennaro Gattuso’s renewal inside,” the club’s sporting director Massimiliano Mirabelli told journalists. Gattuso is still on the same wage he earned when in charge of the youth team — a reported 120,000 euros ($150,000) a year — making him the lowest-paid coach in the Italian top-flight. His new deal would be around the two million euro ($2.4 million) per season, according to Gazzetta Dello Sport. “I’ve been telling you for some time, although perhaps you only know him as a player, that Rino (Gattuso) is already an important coach and in the future will b

The meeting between Kim Jong Un, leader of nuclear-armed North Korea, and the South’s President Moon Jae-in will be only the third of its kind, and will be followed by landmark talks with US President Donald Trump which could come as early as May. The venue will make Kim the first North Korean leader to set foot in the South since the end of the Korean War — although according to Pyongyang’s official accounts, during the conflict his grandfather and predecessor Kim Il Sung went several times to Seoul, which twi

'Even Buffon didn't have to deal with the same pressure as Donnarumma' - Amelia.

Former AC Milan goalkeeper Marco Amelia has praised the 19-year-old for the way in which he has coped with the backlash over his contractual situation Former AC Milan goalkeeper Marco Amelia believes Gianluigi Donnarumma is a "unique" talent, arguing that not even Gianluigi Buffon ever had to deal with the same level of pressure as the teenage sensation is enduring at San Siro. Juventus captain Buffon famously made his Serie A debut at the age of 17, against a Rossoneri side containing fearsome forwards such as George Weah and Roberto Baggio, but earned Parma a 0-0 draw with a string of sensational saves. However, Amelia points out that even during the Italy icon's early days in and out of the Gialloblu starting line-up, he was never subjected to the kind of vitriol that Donnarumma was forced to put up with last year during the furore over his initial refusal to sign a new contract at Milan.
