World markets dive as Trump sparks trade, North Korea worries

Global stocks sank Wednesday after US President Donald Trump said he was not satisfied with talks that are aimed at averting a trade war with China. Equities were also dented by poor eurozone economic data, and as Trump cast doubt on a planned summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. “Trump (is) continuing to drive uncertainty over global trade,” said analyst Joshua Mahony at trading firm IG. “European markets are following their Asian counterparts lower, as a pessimistic tone from Trump is compounded by downbeat economic data,” he added. Mascherano to quit Argentina after World Cup.

Veteran Argentina midfielder Javier Mascherano said Thursday he will step down from international duty after the 2018 World Cup. The versatile Barcelona star, who turns 34 next June, is Argentina’s second most-capped player with 139 appearances for his country and played in the 2014 World Cup final defeat to Germany. He is also a four-time runner-up in the Copa America — finishing on the losing side in 2004, 2007, 2015 and 2016. “My time in the national team finishes in Russia, I won’t go any further,” Mascherano told Argentine TV station TyC Sports. “(Coach Jorge) Sampaoli will decide if I should be selected for the World Cup or not.” Mascherano started Tuesday’s 3-1 South American qualifying victory in Ecuador that guaranteed Argentina a place at next year’s finals in Russia. He is four caps short of equalling Inter Milan legend Javier Zanetti’s Argentina record. Mascherano joined Barcelona from Liverpool in 2010 and is under contract at the Camp Nou until 2019.

Edgal remains acting CP Lagos- Police High command says PSC has no power to demote senior officer. The Police High Command, Abuja, has said that it was not aware that acting Commissioner of Police, Lagos state Police Command, Imohimi Edgal, had been demoted to Deputy Commissioner of Police. Rather, it affirmed that Edgal remains the state’s CP . The high command’s position followed a letter from the Police Service Commission, PSC addressed to the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, informing that Edgal had been reverted to his former rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police. The letter which was signed by the commission’s Permanent Secretary, Mr M.F. Istifanus, on behalf of the Chairman, Mr Mike Okiro was titled ‘Withdrawal of Acting appointment: AP 25095 Mohimi D. Buhari requests Senate’s confirmation of Aishah Ahmad as CBN deputy governor.

President Muhammadu Buhari is seeking the Senate’s confirmation of Mrs Aishah Ahmad’s appointment as a deputy governor in the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). In a letter to the hallowed chamber read by Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, who presided over Thursday’s plenary, Buhari said, if confirmed, Ahmad would replace a deputy governor, who retired early this year. ‎Buhari’s request for the confirmation of Ahmad is in accordance with the provisions of Section 8 of the Central Bank of Nigeria (Establishment) Act 2007. ‎“I have the pleasure to present Mrs Aisha Ahmad for confirmation as Deputy Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, replacing one of the bank’s deputy governors, who retired earlier this year.” Meanwhile, the Upper Chamber has begun consideration of President Buhari’s request for the approval of an external loan of 2.5 billion dollars to finance the 2017 Appropriation Act and another 3 billion dollars to re-finance domestic debts.

NDDC should collaborate with states, not compete says Ayade.

Gov Ben Ayade of Cross River has stressed the importance of collaboration between the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and the different levels of government in the development of the Niger Delta region. Ayade said this on Thursday in Calabar when members of the Board and Management of NDDC paid him a courtesy visit in Calabar.According to Ayade, Cross River deserved sympathy because it was disadvantaged among the Niger Delta states. He explained that the state was the most disadvantaged among NDDC states in the area of infrastructural projects.“We are not competitors. We are partners in progress and as such, all the states in the Niger Delta and the NDDC must work in harmony’’, he said. Kidnapped Female Corper Rescued In Nasarawa (Photos) -.

The Director-General, Brigadier General Sulaiman Kazaure, today met Corps member Nwankpa Blessing, who was recently rescued from kidnappers. The female Corps member was kidnapped some days ago in Nasarawa State. The corps member was rescued in good health. Kazaure expressed joy over her safe release, and gave her words of encouragement. He directed the NYSC Coordinator for Nasarawa State to give her all the necessary support throughout the remaining period of her service. Despite being offered opportunity to relocate, Blessing has chosen to remain in Nasarawa State till she completes the National Service.
