World markets dive as Trump sparks trade, North Korea worries

Global stocks sank Wednesday after US President Donald Trump said he was not satisfied with talks that are aimed at averting a trade war with China. Equities were also dented by poor eurozone economic data, and as Trump cast doubt on a planned summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. “Trump (is) continuing to drive uncertainty over global trade,” said analyst Joshua Mahony at trading firm IG. “European markets are following their Asian counterparts lower, as a pessimistic tone from Trump is compounded by downbeat economic data,” he added. Lagos Women Run 2017 turn out thrills organisers.

Organisers of the Lagos Women Run have described the turn out in the event this year as a testament to fact that Nigerian women are buying into the gospel for healthy living.
The Lagos Women Run was held at the weekend with over 3,000 participants from across the state running for the prizes as well as for different causes.
Speaking on the event, which flagged off at the second gate of the National Stadium on Saturday, the Coordinator, Tayo Popoola, said, “the turnout was massive. Even on the day of the Run, we had people coming to register, and this shows the acceptance of the project. We are grateful to all who made the Run a huge success.
“I am satisfied that everything we did was in line with the initiative of the Lagos Women Run to campaign against brutality against women, sexual abuse, female child education, empowerment for the women’s folks, family and Issues of equality. Those who participated are more than just regular athletes.”

APDA, PDP, commend INEC for “timely” release of 2019 elections’ timetable.

The Advanced Peoples Democratic Alliance (APDA) and the Peoples Democratic Party have commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) “for early release of timetable and schedule of activities for the 2019 general elections.” The political parties gave the commendation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Wednesday. The APDA National Publicity Secretary, Mr Tosin Adeyanju, described the timetable and schedule of activities as a welcome development for political parties.
